The number of women in high paying jobs and entering the job market has risen progressively through the years, but there are many hurdles in their journey up the ladder.
A recent Mckinsey & Company survey shows that since 2015, America has seen only a modest growth in women’s well paid jobs representation in the corporate pipeline. For every 100 men promoted to manager, only 85 women were promoted.
In the five years since 2015, women in high paying job representation in C-suite positions jumped from 17 to 21 percent. In senior vice-president jobs, there was an uptick of only 5 percent. In managerial positions only 1 percent. On an average, the shift upwards is barely 3 percent.
The gender gap too for women in high paying jobs is not narrowing. According to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, women in high paying jobs now earn 81 cents for every dollar earned by men—19 cents more than in 1979, the first year for which figures were available. The gender wage gap is pervasive in many industries, especially those still dominated by men.
High-Paying Jobs for Women
But there are some fields where women not only make up a high percentage of the workforce, but they earn competitive pay doing it.
Here we bring you examples of some professional women’s well paid jobs where they are gaining traction and are earning well:
They dispense medicines based on the prescription from doctors. Pharmacists also offer advice on medication usage.
They mostly operate out of grocery and drugstore pharmacies, others are employed in hospitals or in clinical settings.
To qualify, pharmacists need a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and must be licensed.
Women pharmacists make a median income of $98,280 per year. Percentage of women: 52%
Computer and information systems managers
Also known as information technology managers, such professionals devise, coordinate, implement, and analyze computer-related projects.
Their work responsibilities include web design database development as well as designing a company’s IT approaches and strategies.
A bachelor’s degree or a more specialised degree in computers or informational technology is required.
Female IT managers earn a median annual income of $89,804.
They represent individual clients, businesses, non-profits, or government organizations on legal issues or in legal disputes. Becoming a lawyer requires a four-year bachelor’s degree and three years of law school training.
In order to work professionally in the United States, lawyers must pass their state’s bar examination.

They create computer programs. They do everything from analyzing users’ needs to designing applications and helping write code to improve existing software. It is a fast growing field and attracts a lot of entrepreneurs and innovators. Women software developers earn a median annual income of $85,488.
They assess the medical status of patients, diagnose illnesses/injuries, and recommend treatments. They work in hospitals, healthcare facilities, and group medical practices. They consult with physicians and recommend and refer complex cases to physicians, surgeons, and specialists.

They diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, and devise treatment plans. There are over 100 different specialties and subspecialties for physicians. Women physicians earn a median annual income of greater than $87,204, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Percentage of women doctors is 38 percent.
They are basically designers and can specialise in civil, chemical, electrical, computer, and mechanical fields. Earnings vary according to the engineering discipline, but median salaries often approach or exceed six figures. For example, chemical engineers earn a median annual salary of $96,616. Human Resource Managers
They are responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring new employees.
In addition, they may be involved in other aspects of employee relations, including payroll, benefits, and training. Human resource workers also handle workplace conflict and any other employee-related disputes and issues that crop up.

A management analyst helps an organization reduce costs, increase revenue, and become more profitable. They advise management on various ways to improve efficiency. Many management analysts work as consultants. However, many are a part of a company as analysts. The minimum education qualification is a bachelor’s degree and the preferred streams are economics, management and marketing, finance, business, political science and government, marketing, accounting, computer and information science, and psychology. Some employers require applicants to have a master’s degree in business administration (MBA).

Operations Research Analyst
Operations research analysts are high-level problem-solvers who use data mining, statistical analysis and mathematical modeling to develop solutions that help businesses and organizations operate more efficiently and cost-effectively. Approximate median annual earnings: $68,900

Marketing and Sales Manager
Sales and Marketing Manager is responsible for researching and developing marketing opportunities and planning and implementing new sales plans. Education administrators manage the administration, support systems and activities at an educational institution. Producer and Director
A producer handles the business side of content creation, be it films, or television or digital; and a director is in charge of the creative side.
There are many production duties involved, right from budgeting, to marketing to handling the crew, hiring, scouting.
A director can have assistants.

A physical therapist is a trained and licensed medical professional with experience in diagnosing physical abnormalities, restoring physical function and mobility, maintaining physical function, and promoting physical activity and proper function.

A psychologist studies the mental, emotional and cognitive behaviour of a patient, advises therapy.Some U.S. schools offer accredited programs in clinical psychology resulting in a master’s degree.
