The Perfect Candidate May Not Have A Perfect Resume

As HR managers, we all have been through that phase when our company has an open position and we need to filter through a pool of candidates. Naturally, we judge a candidate on the basis of their accomplishments and experience that are mentioned on their resume. But is a perfect resume enough to guarantee a good hire?

Well, Regina Hartley, a human resource director thinks that a perfect resume may not be the criteria if you want to hire the best candidate. She categorizes the applicants as either Silver Spoons or Scrappers. Silver Spoons are the ones who have great accomplishments, who graduated from an elite college, and are the ones who are born to succeed. On the other hand, there are Scrappers who are not so good at drafting resume, who have hopped too many jobs and are born to fight. Without any doubt, any commonsensical HR manager would consider the ‘Silver Spoon’ candidate as the best fit for the job. But Hartley doesn’t agree with that.

It’s not that Silver Spoons aren’t good, they are great, but they don’t know how to handle failures, as they are so habituated to success. No doubt, graduating from an elite college takes a lot of hard work and effort, but they are destined to success anyway. So the recruiters can give a chance to those who have struggled in life while finding the best candidate. They may not have that perfect resume, but they have passion and purpose in life. They have tackled a lot of things in life and that could be the reason why they don’t find the workplace challenges as that bad.

The job hopping they have mentioned while drafting resume is not necessarily a sign of inconsistency or unreliability. Scrappers are in the never-ending search for opportunities. All those disruptive talents require some proper guidance, and you should give it a try. You’ll be surprised by the way they work, with dedication and enthusiasm.
